2 months agoWe normally love this restaurant. Last night was a HUGE disappointment. We sat down. Waited forever for the waitress to get our drink orders. Then by the time she finally came back we ordered all of our food. Starter then meal. Well, that was the last time we saw her. Never got a refill, never got our starter. Someone else brought our lack luster meals and never got a ticket. It was so loud in there that we could not even talk to each other. Tables next to us seem to get service but we sat there with empty glasses and no food. When we finally gave up and went to the counter we let the man up there know who barely said sorry. We asked for to-go drinks since we never got refills and it seemed to irritate him. So sorry we were a bother. We won’t be back anytime soon and will quit recommending.

5 months agoReally nice food. Wait staff was fine, busy. I got the fish (pescado) torta, with calamari as an appetizer. The fish on it was mildl but flavorful. The calamari had the tentacles which is rather rare, and good. My girl got the dozen oyster plate and spilled her sauce a bit in the picture, haha. It was prettier before she did that. The oysters themselves were very nice. The fries are standard style crinkle cut. The toast was standard garlic texas toast Nothing to complain there. Will come again.

10 months agoGreat stop all around! Carne Guisada was great! Seafood gumbo could have included a little more seafood but had great flavor.

10 months agoThis place is AWESOME!!! Thanks to all the reviews that brought me here. We had shrimp cocktail, gumbo and parrillada. Everything tastes awesome. I was skeptical that the gumbo was going to be too salty, and it was PERFECT! Highly recommended.

a year agoOn the Road from Metallica: A Refugio Reward at Gumbo Seafood The long drive home to the Rio Grande Valley after an epic Metallica concert in Houston calls for a serious refuel, and Gumbo Seafood in Refugio proved to be the perfect pit stop. This unassuming spot delivered a much-needed and flavorful reward after a weekend of headbanging. First up was the shrimp cocktail, a classic choice to cut through the road fatigue. It was a welcome sight: a chilled glass filled with plump, fresh shrimp in a zesty, tangy sauce that instantly refreshed the palate. Next, the main event: a steaming bowl of their namesake gumbo. The rich, dark roux was packed with a generous amount of shrimp and seafood, offering that authentic, soulful flavor you hope for in a good gumbo. It was the perfect, hearty dish to replenish the energy spent in the mosh pit. To round out the meal, we dove into an order of panchos with fajitas. The crispy tortilla chips piled high with tender, sizzling fajita meat and smothered in melted cheese were pure comfort food. It was a savory, satisfying dish that hit all the right notes. For any traveler making the trek between Houston and the RGV, Gumbo Seafood is a worthy detour. It’s a delicious and satisfying oasis that will get you back on the road feeling content and well-fed.

a year agoThe fried mushrooms, catfish, and shrimp were breaded perfectly and golden brown. The tartar sauce was made in-house. It was not lacking in flavor. The cocktail sauce is flavorful with the right amount of horseradish. The crawfish Piroque was outstanding. very rich and loaded with flavor. The French bread it's served on was light and soft. The seafood gumbo was a little thin, but still, the flavor was there. The service was outstanding. I will definitely bring the family here for our family dinner.

a year agoNot bad, just slightly above average food for Mexican. Salsas was fresh and just right great with the chips. Fajitas nachos ok with nachos around the rim that were over covered 🧀 on each one. Some plan chips would be nice. Fresh guacamole with chucks. Michelada was one of the weakest I've ever had, small as well. Salt rim instead of spicy. Flan was very basic, nothing special or great. Service fell right off the map just after a birthday party showed up, too busy.

2 years agoCame down here to visit a winery close by and stopped here for lunch. The menu is massive! I've never seen so many options for seafood in one place. They also have Mexican food and burgers. I went with the chicken tacos, which is a bit of a jump for me since I normally only eat fajitas. The rest of my family got fish of some sort. I was extremely happy with my tacos. They were simple but extremely tasteful. They packed a lot of flavor in the chicken. I wish that I could have eaten them both. My family loved all of their lunches. My only complaint was that our server kept disappearing. It took a while to get refills and a check. Overall, it was a good experience. We would absolutely come back.
