I've been eating at the Speckled Egg for years. Absolute consistency, delightful staff, impeccable food.
This was honestly one of the worst restaurant experiences my family and I have had, both in terms of hospitality and overall organization. We made a reservation and were told the wait would only be about 30 minutes. However, when we arrived at Speckled Egg downtown Pittsburgh, we had to stand in a long line for another 10 minutes just to speak to the person handling reservations, Gram. When we finally got to him, he told us our reservation had been given away because we were supposedly late. He claimed he had called us, which never happened, and even checked our phone himself thinking we are lying. After that, he told us to wait another 20 minutes for a table. We had specifically requested an outdoor table in the hotel area, but after waiting over an hour total, we were eventually seated inside instead. When we politely asked about it, Gram responded very rudely, threw his hands up, and said, “This is what it is.” As tourists visiting Pittsburgh with family, this experience felt especially disrespectful and disappointing. The entire interaction made us feel unwelcome, and unfortunately the food did not come close to justifying the wait or poor treatment. I rarely leave negative reviews, and this is actually the first bad restaurant review I’ve ever written. But the way we were treated by the reservation staff — especially Gram — was unacceptable. I would not recommend this place based on our experience.
Olivia was the best bartender I have ever had. She was personable warm and open minded. I really appreciate her and all of her dedication to the industry.
Excellent spot with tasty menu and beautiful surroundings.
It was so cold in your restaurant I had to leave my food. Unbelievable and where did you get the salt and pepper from?? They don’t work
