3 months agoWe tried the unagi don, ikayaki, combination fried rice, McAllen roll, cucumber squid salad, and miso soups, everything being delicious; the unagi don and ikayaki being standouts for the day. Great service, really cute atmosphere, and a iconic staple of the McAllen local restaurant scene. Highly recommend

6 months agoHadn't been here in years... Food is EXACTLY the same!!!! Very Very good! Prices are very reasonable as well. Had Edemame for appetizer, and 2 Tempura's!!!! Loved LOVED the tempura!!! Definitely coming back!

9 months agoShrimp tempura was great and sauce very tasty! This coming from our recent trip back from Japan! Per husband: fresh sushi was good quality, tasted fresh, good sized pieces too Dragon roll added cream cheese: was okay I would probably try something else next time, wasn’t a fan of the fish on top, it was soft and chewy seemed like seared salmon skin instead of meat, avocado was scarce Beef teriyaki shown is kids portion, we didn’t see a kids menu so when we were ordering this for my two year old from the regular menu the waitress verbally told us they have kids portions available, good taste Cynthia was our waitress, she was great, very very sweet to my daughter, gave her crayons with sketch paper too, attentive upbeat and overall very pleasant This place is warm they don’t seem to have central air, they had a big fan on the floor on, hopefully this is temporary, big reason why we tried to finish quickly as my 4 month old was getting pretty warm in his car seat Overall I would come again, need to try a different sushi roll, ramen is on my list and maybe even the pork tonkatsu

Edited 5 months agoClassic and old school! One of the oldest Asian restaurants in McAllen! Authentic, homemade, fresh & traditional Korean dishes, and freshly made sushi in McAllen. Don’t miss out on the Korean Chirashi and the Bimbibap!! Tokyo was one of the first Korean/ sushi restaurants in McAllen and it’s been serving quality dishes for 25+ years!

2 years agoMy wife's family were regulars back in the day, and finally, it was my turn to experience it for the first time. Right from the start, I was impressed. Parking was a breeze, the restaurant gleamed with cleanliness, and the food tasted as fresh as can be. But what truly stole the show was our server, Maggie. Her impeccable customer service left us in awe. Not only did she meticulously wipe down our already spotless table, but she even sanitized the high chair for our son. As a parent who's always cautious, her attention to detail truly set a positive tone for our evening. The grilled squid and tempura shrimp were a delightful start, setting the bar high for the rest of the meal. I opted for the steak teriyaki, which my two-year-old son thoroughly enjoyed – a rare feat indeed! Meanwhile, my wife's choice of fried rice left such an impression that I found myself scarfing it down at 3 am. Tokyo Sushi Bar, you've gained a loyal fan in me.

2 years agoFood was good, the fresh tuna and salmon was delicious. Service was okay, the waitress was attentive which was nice. The only thing I can suggest is that some sort of lofi Japanese style music play in the background because the restaurant is silent which makes for an awkward environment. The restaurant has a lot of potential to draw in larger crowds.

Edited a year agoThe Tokyo never disappoints! Try them the next time you are in the mood for an awesome roll. I am partial to the California roll with masago. Pro diner tip...have them fix you up with their "house sauce" and enjoy it with your roll, Bulgogi , or steamed rice. Give the Tokyo a try! Happy eating!

4 years agoBurnt out roll was great….. Dragon roll not so much…..rice was too wet…..flavor was off Steamed rice was also too wet Squid salad was on point Hot sake was so hot it burned my fingertips, had to wait 10 minutes till it was drinkable. I would definitely give this place a second chance. Service was on point, so was presentation.
