Authentic Italian cuisine in a neighborhood setting from the Romano family! It’s imperative that you try one of “mama’s” homemade desserts! Seriously!! Best homemade cheesecake I’ve ever had and I have had them all across the country and around the world! Baked specialties lasagna and others are served piping hot and delicious. If you’re there in the evening, you may be fortunate enough to get Melissa or Debbie! —two of the best wait staff at any restaurant. Make this restaurant a regular “go to” when you want great Italian food!
Tried Vito’s Italian recently and overall I’d say it was decent, definitely better than Olive Garden in most ways, although the atmosphere could use some work. My boyfriend got the Tour of Italy. The lasagna was really good, the chicken parm was just okay and kind of forgettable compared to the other items, and the Alfredo pasta was honestly the standout at first bite. It came out hot, creamy, and flavorful. The only downside was that after it sat for a while, grease started collecting at the bottom, which made it a little harder to finish toward the end. I got the Penne Pomodoro, and for the price the portion size was great. It wasn’t anything super fancy or mind-blowing, but it tasted comforting and homemade, which was exactly what I was craving that night. The salad was really good. The bread, though, was just okay. It came out warm, but even with butter and dipping sauce it didn’t do much for us. We kind of rushed to eat it because we were trying to help our server by letting her pre-bus the table, but honestly I wish we had saved it for the entrees instead. One thing I noticed was that my dish came out a little before my boyfriend’s, and the temperature difference was pretty noticeable. Mine wasn’t quite as hot by the time we both started eating. I understand kitchens can get backed up or only work on certain dishes at a time, but hopefully they have heat lamps in the back because it did affect the experience a little. Our server seemed pretty tired, but she was still kind and polite the whole time. I think the bigger issue was the atmosphere. When we walked in it was completely silent with no other customers, so it made us pay more attention to the environment around us. We noticed things like peeling and tape on the walls, tables not fully cleaned, and the booth near us peeling/ripped apart. The decor itself was cute/well-decorated, and honestly if the restaurant had felt a little more lively we probably wouldn’t have focused on those details as much. The biggest thing I personally didn’t love was having to pay up front. I prefer paying at the table, especially because I like handing cash tips directly to my server. By the time we went to the register, our server had disappeared to the back and we weren’t really comfortable handing cash to someone else. Overall, it was a decent experience with some genuinely good food, especially the Alfredo and lasagna. With a little work on the atmosphere and presentation, perhaps playing some music, I think the experience could improve a lot.
Vito's is a true hidden gem in Greensboro! A Tuesday evening visit was met with a warm, homey atmosphere that felt like a family-owned spot back in the Northeast. Despite it being a weekday, the service was top-notch; the team made us feel like regulars immediately. The food was very good - you can tell everything is made in-house. Definitely will return.
