See All ReviewsOne of the most impressive meals we’ve had in quite some time. We’ve known Chef Tsuta as a world class yakitori chef, and now being able to see (and taste) his creativity in other ways is amazing. It’s no wonder this is one of the hardest reservations to get in San Diego; the amount of time, work, and care he puts into every course is mind boggling. Go for the omakase; you won’t be disappointed, and you will definitely not leave hungry.
Each person will have to ask themselves if a premium omakase experience in what heretofore is a more casual style of dining is worth the elevated price. Specifically if you've been a patron of Yakyudori and their outstanding Hino & Taisho establishments just how far the bar is actually raised at Tsuta. I've eaten here several and I can attest that you will find quality here not offered in the other houses in SD. The efforts made here are surely worth a visit. Their attention to detail is admirable and in a few instances borders on the sublime. Ultimately, I remain partial to the more pedestrian approach to yakitori as a go to experience. Some things in life just don't need to be dressed up.
An absolutely exceptional omakase experience. From the moment you step in, the intimate setting sets the tone for something truly special. Each course was thoughtfully crafted, beautifully presented, and bursting with flavor—every bite felt intentional and made with genuine care. The space was immaculate, and the chef took his time to guide us through each dish, showcasing both skill and artistry. This was an unforgettable dining experience that sets a new standard for omakase. Highly recommended, and I will most certainly be returning.
