Very large venue with lots of potential but lacks the management and consistency to get a better rating from Me. The food was below average. the drink prices are not cheap but they serve you premium liquor in plastic cups. The cover charge should be no more than $5 (if that) until the quality of the establishment is increased.
We found this place hoping to listen to some great live music and have some good drinks while sitting outside, when we got there there was a person playing music but he played two songs and said he was done at 8 on a Friday night... Lame... We ordered an simple vodka cranberry and a Guinness, well the vodka drink literally had no vodka and the bartender lady forget which beer I ordered, really? We were the only ones at the bar, we also got bit up by mosquitoes... Not there fault but it didn't help the mood
It was one of the worst places I have ever been to. The Manager was terrible and completely useless when our food came out completely wrong and cold. Another Manager yelled across the restaurant to the wait staff and made her cry. And to top it off we found small shards of glass in our drink after we had already finished them. This place will not last, there were only 5 people in there on a Friday night. DO NOT GO THERE!
I loved it here!! The food was awesome my first time there I had there pork chop which was cook to perfection so juicy and delicious with mashed potatoes and broccoli that were both very good as well. (I will go there everyday for lunch now) they also have wonderful lunch specials like bottomless french fries unlimited soup and salad half price on almost everything it was awesome and there drink prices were great too. The bartenders were very wonderful and I even got to meet my cook the staff there was very wonderful. My first time there was a Tuesday around 2:00 it was nice to me very peaceful not a lot of noise very easy going my food came out fast the atmosphere was nice. I also came here on a Friday night with a couple of friends just to see what it was like. I loved it the music was great I wish there was a little more of a verity I like a bit of everything I'm not picky(new age music). THEY ALSO SERVE FOOD LATE. I don't drink a lot but when I do I sure love to eat. Thank you Yucatan for your late night food and a great time. I LOVED IT
UPDATE:: found out the reason for the drastic change... It's no longer Green Iguana.. It's the Yucatan Bar and Grill. They hadn't changed the signs yet.. We used to love this place. It was so nice to have a fun place for latin night with an atmosphere of good people and dancing. And the dance floor was always packed. As of last night, I will never come here again. It's now under new management and has effectively been turned into an Ybor city wanna-be trashy place. Getting pat-downs before you walk in the door, $10 cover, trashy classless bartender outfits and half naked dancing girls on stage that remind me of cage dancers. And guess what? No one was on the dance floor. The girls were uncomfortable because now it's a meat market atmosphere. Way to ruin a good place guys. That is why every bar that has opened in the spot has failed.
I miss the old GI when dollar drinks were really a dollar and you didn't have to pay after a certain time on Wednesday nights (which changed from 12 to 11 unbeknownst to me which I had the displeasure of finding out at the door last week). I wouldn't mind paying if I knew it was going to be a good crowd and music, but I can't see paying to go into an empty bar with mediocre music (I like House music as much as the next guy but every song mixed with it is over-kill). The new space is way too big probably because people would rather go elsewhere. The old GI was a chill bar and the new spot is too "club" for me, but never seems to deliver a complete club experience...not a good one at least. The one thing the old one and new one have in common is no matter how many bartenders are there it always takes entirely too long to get a drink.
Been going for a few weeks, every Wednesday. I've noticed the crowd is thinning out. Seems I'm not the only one who finds the cover charge ridiculous. Drink prices are higher than Westshore GI, I think I'll stick to that one.
Green Iguana, you are a dead lizard to us. We have had 2 horrible services in a row, and a mediocre one prior to that. Yes, we did call the manager, left a note, and emailed (Brandon) on the last visit with absolutely no response, so don't even act like you care. Love the burgers, but wins the prize for the worst service we've ever had in a restaurant. There are burgers just as good at several competitors - no need to return to Green Iguana. P. S. - last visit had a/c vents dripping on our table and a cockroach made an appearance at the end of the meal. Mentioned it to waitress but she just said, "sorry" and left the bill.
