Small establishment here on the West side. Open on certain days only . Went by on a Wednesday 1st time . Offers specials and combos. Only ordered a chopped sandwhich. You know how most bbq places have a strong hickory smell filling the air outside and as you walk in, well this place didn't have that . Makes me wonder where they cook their meats. I paid 7 something for 2 chops. Idk if all the grounded finely meat was all brisket but it was good. I'll be back to try the brisket ,so far so good I enjoyed my sandwhich way better than Bill Millers chops where you get left over scraps of all kinds of meats mixed with their sauce
Our first time here and it was so so. The bbq itself was more reminiscent of North Carolina bbq. The sauce sweet with a vinegar after kick. The mac and cheese was minimal, Church’s chicken has better but similar. The potato salad tasted store bought but mix with more mayo in-house. The pinto beans had the strangest taste to them as if the taste of the metal from the pot mixed with it not being wash correctly giving it an oily metal taste. Definitely not an experience worth repeating. The warning should have been the George Strait playing when you walked in. For the price, we would prefer to continue going further away by Cupples and 90 for our buck and quality. This was a huge miss for us…
This place was amazing! The customer service was excellent! I had the brisket plate with rice and beans. My husband chose the ribs with rice and beans. We both enjoyed our meals. The meat was juicy, tasty, and tender! We loved it so much we ordered their chicken just to try it.it did not disappoint. The food disappeared so quickly I didn't have the chance to take photos. The atmosphere was inviting. My husband and enjoyed various conversations with other customers. Did I mention its affordable and reasonably priced especially for BBQ! Well it is!
This is a hidden gem! The food was piping hot and everything we ordered was delish. One of the top BBQ places that we have ever eaten at. We had brisket plates, pork ribs plates, OG brisket sandwich, macaroni with cheese and creamed corn. Other sides were rice and beans. We will be back!
Adorable bbq joint! I’ve seen plenty of times on Culebra and finally stopped in. 2 meat plate was $17 and fulfilling!! Great use of seasoning and pepper galore!! Rice was fluffy, beans were delicious. Turkey was tender and soft! Enjoyable music playing and employees were kind. Can’t wait to go back and try their mac and cheese!
TL;DR: Delicious BBQ with generous portions, great flavor, and friendly service Zeke’s might be the best BBQ in San Antonio. Well worth the visit. For starters, I ordered the 2-meat plate with my selections being the brisket and smoked turkey (the two sides as shown were potato salad and mac & cheese). My wife ordered the one plate meal with her selections being the sausage and sides of pinto beans and green beans. The good: -Brisket was moist but not sopping wet. -Meat was not overseasoned -House sauce was sweet and tangy but not overbearing. -Price to portion ratio was favorable. -Sides were just as delicious as the meat. Improvements: -Minor cosmetic upgrades would be nice -Main ice machine wasn't working, but workers had spare ice in a fridge. -Small interior dining area could provide trouble finding seating indoors during busy periods. Overall: After a very disappointing stop at another BBQ place in downtown San Antonio (one that was overpriced and overhyped). We were relieved to find Zeke's BBQ Smokehouse. There friendly staff and delicious food made for a great stop. We don't think it would be very hard to crown this establishment as the Best BBQ in San Antonio. If you're in the area it should be one of your first stops. If you're an out of state traveler like we were, its worth going out of your way for. Our family of 3 polished our plates and managed to snag one of their jello desserts (which we also polished off). We will definitely be back for more!
Small place that kind of looks like the outside was tagged. Inside was clean, well lit, but the interior was aged. I ordered sliced brisket plate with side recommendations from the gal at the counter. My plate was delivered to my table in short time and the sliced brisket came with creamy Mac&cheese that had a hint of pepper, green beans with chopped tomatoes and bits of meat all nicely mixed with a good spice, two slices of bread, pickles, onions, and BBQ sauce. The brisket was cooked perfectly, was tender, and stood on its own without BBQ sauce. The sides were very good and complimented the brisket. I enjoyed eating here in a simple but comfortable environment with country music playing in the background. Good BBQ at a good price.
First experience here at Zeke's and found it ok. The meal was a decent price, but just didn't do anything to really put it over. Brisket had flavor but was dry, even though I asked for moist. Beef ribs were tender but bite size. Mac and cheese and coleslaw all tasted store bought. Pork ribs also could have used a touch more seasoning. If in a bind, not a bad place, but again much better options outside there.
