We have been to most of the dim sum restaurants in the area and our family always chooses to return to this one. You can tell that the majority of the patrons here are locals and the dishes are pretty authentic even though they did away with the carts.
Disappointing Experience – Won’t Be Returning Our group of four ordered our food at the same time, but the first dish to arrive — the salt and pepper fish — was cold. When we mentioned it to our waiter, his response shocked us: “Would you like me to microwave it?” He did end up removing that dish from the bill, which we appreciated, but the overall experience continued to go downhill. Later, after finishing a sticky rice wrapped in a grape leaf (which actually tasted great), I noticed a long piece of hair inside the leaf. Wanting to be fair and avoid any accusation of trying to get something free, we paid our bill before mentioning it. Ironically, my fortune cookie said, “Time is precious, tell the truth or you will lose precious time.” So I showed the waiter and said, “Look, I have to tell the truth — there’s a hair in my food.” His first response was, “No it didn’t come from here.” I reminded him I had already paid and just wanted him to tell the kitchen. He eventually apologized, but by then the experience was completely ruined. Between the cold food, poor response, and hygiene issue, we won’t be going back.
Delicious Chinese food great for groups and always fast and easy. They have amazing seafood that is always fresh. The best dim sum in Chicago as well.
Located on the 2nd floor in Chinatown square. Mostly we come for dimsum, however we came for dinner to celebrate a special occasion with family. We ordered many typical Cantonese style dishes. Everything was good for the dishes we ordered.
I was given a menu for regular prices for family gathering dinner . When I ordered from the menu and was told those are extra dishes. When I saw the big dishes, I know I gotta pay extra double prices from the menu for those portions I shouldn’t order. I didn’t expect I order every dish with double portion. Just a kind reminder if you’re tourists or seldom dine in this restaurant, always ask the price for “extra” big dish and make sure the price is same portion as the menu you see. Actually I’m resident of Chicago, always eating in Chinatown’s restaurants. My first experience ever.
It's maybe $30-$50/per person. But I accidentally ordered too much, so it was $430 for 8 of us. Most of the food/dimsum I ordered were tasty. We like the roasted duck, dumplings, squid,.... But the Xiaolongbao was disappointed. It was too salty. I accidentally ordered too much so the staff packed the remainder into boxes to take home. However, when we got back to the hotel, we discovered that they did not give us chopsticks and dipping sauce. If you are in the same situation as us, you should tell them you want more dipping sauce and chopsticks. I think it wasn't too expensive because we packed the remaining food and brought it back to the hotel for breakfast the next day. So the 8 of us got 2 meals for $430.
Some servers here doesn’t understand English so you’ll have to be patience with them. I had to flagged down the server to place our dine in order. Their menu has two sides and apparently they forgot about the items (half roast duck, bbq pork and a seafood dish) we ordered on the other side of the dim sum side. The food here is ok. Don’t order the Korean style short beef as it’s mostly fat. The stir fried beef and pepper was good. The dim sum items here is about $1 cheaper than Phoenix Restaurant.
This is a true family Chinese restaurant. You get the vibe once you get inside. However, be aware that they will be more friendly with Chinese people than with other people (happens in many places, not only here), so if you are not fine with it and get irritated easily, please avoid it for your own good. Decoration makes you feel like in a movie, as it is true Chinese including tables and chairs, and staff is not extremely nice but they do their job perfectly fine, so no complaints! We ordered dim sum and it was amazing! Please, order anything that contains seafood (especially shrimp or crab) and it will be delicious! Price is also very reasonable, so we will be coming back!
