Good little spot to eat.
Originally I made a good review because the food is good and healthy which I stand by, but the bigger issue is the fact that the plates and cups are always sticky, wet, and dirty. Why should students have to sift through plates to find ones without food residue? And the unclean plates touching the clean plates? A wet, clean plate is one thing, but a wet, sticky plate with weird red marks all over it that can be wiped off with a single swipe is another. If you drink from the drink machines remember to always wipe the rim of your cup.
The food is awful. I've had better meals on airplanes. More often than not, healthy protein options are extremely limited and bland. The vegetables are either unseasoned, mushy, or just diabolical (stewed carrots seasoned with nothing but thyme) and the salad bar is lackluster. Fruit options are nearly nonexistent. Oftentimes there will be shortages of certain items like rice or mixed vegetables, and the pink lemonade is a rare commodity due to the lack of syrup in the soda machines. Portion sizes are usually very small. The scrambled eggs from breakfast gave me diarrhea three mornings in a row. Forks are impossible to find. They say beggars can't be choosers but people pay good money for a meal plan. Every time I send a picture of my plate to my friends, they worry for my wellbeing. I no longer wonder why the chairs inside the dorms rock backwards.
Personally, I think the roadrunner cafe is great. They always have plenty of options for lunch and dinner. I’ve never not been able to find something I like. I purchased unlimited plan and I’m really glad I did, since it’s right to next my campus housing. -They need more ice machines, we run through their supply really quickly on hot days.
Can't make a full assessment just yet. I'll need to try their lunch and dinner. The breakfast is a buffet for students and guests. It's almost 11 dollars. If you're not one of the gluttonous eaters or over indulgeners, I'd say you're better off going to Deny's or IHOP. You'll pay less for a full meal that is fresher and tastes better for a out 7 or 8 dollars
How the hell does this place have 3.9 stars?? Worst food I’ve had in my life, and hands down the biggest scam at utsa. I can think of maybe three food choices here that are OK- everything else is disgusting. Their breakfast menus are kind of fine, but dinner always sucks and i’ve been eating the same thing almost every day. If utsa actually invested in better quality food, maybe students would genuinely want to buy a meal plan and they wouldn’t have to force housing residents to get one. Btw, i’m pretty sure the eggs here are fake lol. They’re rubbery and sometimes have weird brown/grey stuff in them??
This was definitely a place that reminds me of the old days in highschool quality cafeteria food, sure it brought back fond memories of moments shared with old friends back in the day but also how low quality and generic the food was. The price for admission definitely appropriate and fair for what you get here...though that is as much praise and can give to this place.
Every now-and-then they'll have good tasting food. Friday - Sunday the food and the selection is horrible, especially the home zone. It seems that the workers don't seem to care when the top manager isn't there. Or the workers aren't experienced. I'll say that for the most part, 1 out of 4 the employees seem to love working there. The hardest and friendliest working people there are Jorge and David! The pizza lady that works the mornings is really moody. Yoli (the lady that usually makes the omelettes) will hide her good pans when she doesn't work that station. It sucks because the other workers have to deal with the egg sticking to the pans, which messes up our food. The manager there will listen to your comments and is engaging through a napkin feedback system that they have. I'll say he is funny but doesn't realize all the drama that goes around his back. Everyone would rather have homemade food from our parents but you really won't get that here. I'd say that if you have ya car (or a friend with a car), plenty of time, and patience, you'll be better off cooking for yourself. Not having a car and going to H-E-B or Walmart on the bus will be a hassle and difficult (each are ~20 minutes from campus on a bus). Chopping, prepping and cooking will take a lot of study time from your schedule. If you're a freshmen you have no choice because you have to get a meal plan. Hope that helped.
