Rather than being in New York I am an Englishman in South Texas. As I am a vegetarian finding food without meat has been nigh on impossible so far on this road trip. However Vernon's Café serves Chalupa which is veggie. And was delicious. I can't vouch for the meat meals but if the Chalupa is anything to go by they will be excellent. If you are local, or passing through I recommend a visit!
Ordered Chicken Alfredo, they used spaghetti instead of Fettuccine or Linguine, spaghetti was over cooked and mushy and the Alfredo sauce was dry whereas should have been creamy, will not order that dish again unless they fix it...
What a great visit here at Vernon's! We had never been and stopped on our way up to San Antonio. Our server Sandra was the sweetest and the food was so tasty. I had the hamburger steak and it was so delicious. My daughter has the banana loco pancakes. Over all great place! We will come again and try the pizza.
